Delta Math Data Days (PD) 2013-14

Data Days: Fall, Winter, and Spring

This one-day workshop will bring together Delta Math Implementation Teams to focus on analyzing your Delta Math screening data. We will identify your district's high priority math standards for each grade level and develop plans for addressing these needs.  We will deliberately connect these plans with your overall school improvement plan and continuous improvement process. This workshop will be repeated at mid-year (to monitor progress and adjust plans) and at year-end (to evaluate progress and develop next year’s plans).

Together, we will use your screener data to answer these questions

• Where are our students struggling in math? With which content?
• What are the HIGH PRIORITY readiness standards for math?
• How can we strengthen our core math curriculum in response to our data?
• What additional support is needed to prepare students for learning instruction?
• Which students might benefit from Tier 3 intervention? Summer school?
• How can we leverage our School Improvement Plan's math strategies and activities to respond to our data?

RtI Webinar for Secondary Mathematics

The Center on Instruction hosted a webinar on January 10, 2012, on RTI in Mathematics at the Secondary Level, featuring Dr. Takako Nomi from the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research and Dr. John Woodward of the School of Education at the University of Puget Sound. Dr. Nomi shared her research on how to help struggling students catch up on foundational skills needed to master algebra, and Dr. Woodward discussed how to motivate middle school students and get them engaged in mathematics. PD opportunity: Delta Math implementation support

This session is offered for current DELTA MATH users ONLY.

DELTA MATH Implementation Teams (administrators, team leaders, teachers, and instructors) will gather to plan for intervention instruction.

As an implementation team member, are you curious about:

• Finding DELTA MATH progress monitoring resources and how they can be organized?
• Using DELTA MATH progress monitoring resources to support the first day of intervention for each readiness standard?
• Recommendations for interventions based on DELTA MATH data?
• Planning for a 30-minute explicit intervention lesson?
• Finding resources for explicit lessons and targeted practice and how they can be organized?
• Scheduling systematic interventions based on DELTA MATH Data?

If so, make sure your team registers to attend.

After exploring each of the above questions, implementation teams will begin to plan for targeted intervention instruction using your own school’s data.

REL-Midwest report on Michigan's implementation and support of RtI

Regional Educational Laboratories (REL) - Midwest just released a report that reviews 6 mid-west states' implementation and support of Response to Intervention (RTI). Michigan is one of these states.
Based on a review of state documents and interviews with state and local officials in six Midwest Region states, this qualitative study describes state education agency policy development and planning for response to intervention approaches to instruction. It also looks at the support provided to districts and schools implementing response to intervention.

Response to Intervention in Mathematics

Russell Gersten, COI-Math Director and Director of the Instructional Research Group, presented at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting & Exposition in Indianapolis, IN, in April 2011. He described the evidence base for RTI in mathematics and suggested strategies for successful implementation and the pivotal role mathematics teachers can and should play in RTI.

What is Delta Math?

The program includes three web-based, diagnostic screeners (Fall, Winter and Spring) for grades one through eight. All screeners provide quick and efficient data collection of student performance aligned to Michigan's Grade Level Content Expectations.

Response to Intervention (RtI) in elementary and middle schools, when implemented with fidelity, helps educators to ensure that all students are successful. The Ottawa Area ISD has piloted the DELTA MATH RtI Program in grades 1 through 8 and will be describing and demonstrating the program in this half-day session. Interested school teams consisting of teachers, instructional leaders, and administrators should attend to explore this low-cost program. The DELTA MATH RtI Program provides web-based screeners, customized data reports, guided reviews, and progress monitoring.
